The Antfarm
English & Comparative Literature Department Split (Winter 2003)
note: the departments actually split in 2005 after much acrimony
After months of rancorous debate, the results are finally in.  The faculty have opted for Plan "9" which calls for what is now the department of English and Comparative Literature to be split into 54 separate autonomous departments. Each English and Comparative Literature professor will comprise his or her own separate department and will be responsible for all curriculum and budgeting decisions.  All public relations for the new departments will refer to them collectively as

(pronounced “da bomb”) which is a ‘signifier’ that ‘signifies’ The Department formerly known as English and Comparative Literature. "I couldn't be more pleased with Plan 9," says Hugh Roberts, who will head the new departments of Hugh Roberts Historicist Studies and Hugh Roberts Vaguely DeManian Studies.  "I am very honored to be the new chair of two departments, and honestly, Hugh Roberts and Hugh Roberts were never really going to see eye to eye anyway."
